Innovation challenge to borough businesses

Businesses and organisations can help drive forward 5G coverage across Dudley borough by taking part in a regional innovation challenge.
The Smart Cities Challenge, run by the 5pring consortium, will provide start-ups and other small businesses with support in developing 5G innovations targeted at the health, social, public services and transport sectors.
It aims to encourage innovations in the use of 5G technology and help the roll out across the borough and the wider region.
It could be businesses developing solutions to support health and wellbeing, digital experiences, smart parking, journey planning, waste management and many more.
Successful applicants will get access to cutting edge technology and private 5G networks, a tailored curriculum, coaching, mentoring and expertise from some of the biggest names in the business including Telefonica UK (O2), Deloitte, Wayra, West Midlands 5G and the Digital Catapult.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said:
"This initiative is an opportunity to not only showcase the innovation we have across the borough but also to help drive 5G coverage forward in the borough.
"The priorities set by the challenge – health, social, public services and transport – are very much in line with our own at Dudley Council as we continue to build connectivity wherever possible.
"The health and wellbeing priority could feature ideas around tackling loneliness or isolation while the public services area could see innovations around traffic monitoring, smart parking or tackling fly-tipping and littering."
Augmented and virtual reality ideas are expected around the social and events challenge while public safety and security spark developments in monitoring and responding to anti-social behaviour reports.
