Guidance for pubs ahead of re-opening this Saturday

01 Jul 2020

Dudley Council is writing to pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants to help them re-open safely this weekend.

From Saturday (July 4) licensed premises can once again open their doors, so long as they follow social distancing and safety measures to protect staff, customers and the public.

The council is contacting all licensees highlighting the new government legislation which sets out guidance on what they need to do ahead of opening.

As well as the requirement to complete risk assessments, licensees will see their existing alcohol licence extended to cover outdoor spaces on the premises, while pavement permits can be applied for, so long as there is room for social distancing around tables and chairs.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member responsible for licensing, said:

"We’re pleased to see the return of our pubs, cafes, bars and restaurants, however, while I’m sure we all want to get back to normal, we need to remember we are not there yet.
"When re-opening on Saturday we want to ensure those in the hospitality sector do so safely, so we are providing them with the government information and guidance to help them protect them, their staff and customers.
"We’ve all had to adapt and change the way we do things and for the time being it will be different when visiting your local pub, bar, café or restaurant.
"However, it’s vital everyone plays their part in preventing a second wave of Covid-19 and the real risk of a local lockdown by adhering to the premises’ guidelines."
