Extra financial boost for businesses

02 Mar 2021

Finance bosses have written to more than 1,500 businesses offering them thousands of pounds worth of extra financial help as the national lockdown continues.

Businesses who have been forced to temporarily close because of the national lockdown have received more than £13.5m already from Dudley Council from the lockdown grants schemes.

But the government announced an extension to the scheme until March 31 which means those businesses which have been paid already, can now receive even more money.

The grants are distributed to eligible businesses based on the rateable value (RV) of the premises.

It means those with an RV of less than £15,000 are entitled to an extra £2,096 while those with an RV of £15-51,000 will receive an extra £3,143. Those businesses with an RV over £51,000 are eligible for an extra £4,714.

The council has contacted relevant businesses to automatically give them the extra money

Meanwhile, businesses who have not yet applied could still be eligible for the full amount, including the top up.

Councillor Steve Clark, cabinet member for finance, said:

"This is excellent news for businesses and I am delighted we have been able to take a proactive approach and contact these businesses and automatically give them the extra money. That will ease the pressure a little on these businesses and demonstrates our commitment to going above and beyond to support people through this national crisis."

Since the start of the pandemic the council has provided more than £100 million of financial support to borough businesses.
